Structural Pest

Atlanta, Georgia (March 25, 2020) - Due to recent events relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, Commissioner Gary Black and the Georgia Structural Pest Control Commission (SPCC) have issued new guidance for temporary technician registrations. This guidance will allow GDA to issue a temporary employee (technician) registration while the Georgia pest examination centers are closed.
Temporary Technician Registrations:

  • The pre-examination training requirements must be met and the SPCC Pre-Examination Training Form must be completed and submitted to pest@agr.georgia.gov Notice 18-01: Pre-Examination Training Form.
  • The Designated Certified Operator (DCO) must complete the online application for a new employee registration and pay the required fee Application for Employee Registration. If examination is not available, the DCO should select "COVID-19 Examination Waiver" on the application. Please note that only online applications will be accepted for temporary employee registrations. COVID-19 Exam Waiver will not be available after June 30th, 2020
  • Technicians holding a Temporary Employee Registration must take and pass the state employee registration examination by September 30, 2020.

This guidance will remain in effect until further notice.

Emergency Rule for Antimicrobial Pest Control: Due to recent events relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture has determined that an emergency Rule is hereby necessary to ensure a sufficient number of pesticide applicators are available and authorized to apply general use sanitizers and disinfectants in treating for COVID-19. The Georgia Department of Agriculture has adopted Emergency Rule 40-21-2-0.6-.01 which temporarily allows a person who is currently certified in any operational category or who is appropriately licensed to perform structural pest control services in Georgia to use general use sanitizers and disinfectants to treat for COVID-19 only without being specifically certified in the Antimicrobial Pest Control category. The Emergency Rule is effective immediately and will remain in effect for 120 days. http://agr.georgia.gov/emergency-rule-commercial-applicators.aspx

Pest Control as Essential Services
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security released a federal list that included pest control service (exterminators) as an essential business. Some cities like the city of Atlanta issued a shelter in place directive and this designation will be helpful for the pest control industry to continue providing essential services.
