About the Food Safety Division

Our Food Safety Division administers state laws, rules and regulations for retail and wholesale grocery stores, retail seafood stores and places in the business of food processing and plants which are currently required to obtain a license from the Commissioner under any other provision of law. This includes bakeries, confectioneries, fruit, nuts and vegetables stores and places of business, and similar establishments, mobile or permanent, engaged in sale of food primarily for consumption off the premises. Georgia’s Top 5 Food Safety Stories of 2018

The NEW version of the Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards (aka VNRFRPS) is now available from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration! These standards are designed for state & local retail jurisdictions to create uniform programs that touch all the important components necessary for an effective regulatory program. Currently, the GDA’s food safety program is enrolled in these, as well as FDA’s Manufactured Food Regulatory Program Standards (aka MFRPS), and our feed program is enrolled in the Animal Feed Regulatory Program Standards (aka AFRPS).
