Gary W. Black serves as the 16th Commissioner of Agriculture in Georgia’s history. Currently in his third term, Commissioner Black has served in various leadership positions during his 40-year career in Georgia agriculture extending from the Georgia Farm Bureau to the Georgia Agribusiness Council.   More>>

Dr. James Sutton was born and raised in Griffin, Georgia. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia with both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Agronomy. In 1988, he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Agronomy from Auburn University.  More>>

Jimmy Wilson

Jimmy Wilson, CPA
Director of Finance

Jimmy Wilson is a native Georgian and a graduate of Georgia State University. As Director of Finance for Georgia Department of Agriculture, he leads the fiscal operations of the agency which includes Accounting, Budgets, and Grants. Jimmy served his country as a member of the United States Air Force and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). More>>

Director of Animal Industry
Adam was named the Animal Industry Division Director for the Georgia Department of Agriculture on January 16, 2018. As such, he oversees the Department’s Animal Health, Livestock and Poultry, Companion Animal and Equine, and Meat Inspection Programs.  More>>

Doug Killingsworth

Doug Killingsworth
Division Director of Fuel and Measures
Doug Killingsworth is a native of Wrightsville, Ga. and grew up on his family’s farm in Johnson Co. Ga. where he and part of his family still live. Doug farmed for sixteen years before starting his career with the Georgia Department of Agriculture in 1994. He was an inspector at the Macon State Farmers Market and then transferred to the Fuel and Measures Division after one year. Dr. John Shugart

Dr. John Shugart
Director of Laboratory Division
Dr. Shugart is a native of Whitfield County Georgia and spent much of his childhood on the family cattle farm in Cohutta, Georgia. Dr. Shugart was so comfortable in a cattle pasture and hayfield that he attended college in a similar setting obtaining a B.S. in chemistry from Berry College. Upon graduation from Berry College he attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. At Emory he completed both his Masters and Doctorate in chemistry.  More>>

Dr. Robert Cobb

Dr. Robert Cobb
State Veterinarian
Dr. Robert M. Cobb, Jr. was born and raised in Moultrie, Georgia, graduating from Moultrie High School in 1972. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Valdosta State College in 1976 followed by a year working as an Animal Health Technician with the joint USDA-State Accelerated Brucellosis Program. Dr. Cobb earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia College in 1981.  More>>
